Nestled on the Mediterranean coastline between the French border to the west and the Italian Gulf of La Spezia to the east lies the area known as the Italian Riviera. On the western part of this coastline is the resort of Diano Marina, set in a wide, sun–kissed bay with an excellent climate, splendid beaches, and wonderful cuisine. This holiday includes three full days of excursions, but the resort's magnificent setting, with picturesque coves and hills clad in olive groves and pine, lemon and orange trees, provides a stunning backdrop for those days when you are simply relaxing and watching the world go by.

Sunday   Your resort representative will hold welcome meeting at the hotel, then the rest of the day is at leisure in Diano Marina.

Monday   Rapallo & Portofino. The coach will take you first to Rapallo where you will have some time to explore the narrow streets and have lunch. After lunch, we will depart for the fashionable resort of Portofino, a 25–minute cruise by boat if weather conditions permit, enjoying the fine views of the coastline and Portofino's half–moon–shaped seafront and smart marina from the bay. Behind the seafront there are some botanical gardens, and for the more energetic there is a path up the steep hill to a spectacular castle. From here the trail continues to the lighthouse on the point and an incomparable view of the blue Mediterranean. After some time in Portofino to explore and browse the smart shops and lace stalls, and perhaps enjoy some refreshment, we return by boat to Rapallo where we pick up the coach and return to your hotel in good time for dinner.

This excursion is subject to change due to sea conditions, which may include a change of itinerary and/or a change of day.

Tuesday   A further day at leisure.

Wednesday   Monte Carlo.

Today we depart at around 8am for a full–day excursion to the principality of Monaco and the famous exclusive resort of Monte Carlo. You do not need to be a millionaire or film star to enjoy the sights of Monaco, with its balmy climate, brilliant turquoise sea and palm–shaded promenades. You may wish to visit the Jardin Exotique where more than 6000 cacti and tropical plants thrive in a stunning setting with far–reaching views over the principality. We then continue on to the old part of Monaco known as The Rock, where you can visit the Oceanographic Museum, one of the most important aquariums in Europe, the Royal Palace with its distinctive guards, or perhaps Monaco's Cathedral where Princess Grace lies at rest. Enjoy your day soaking up the atmosphere, celebrity–spotting and perhaps risking a euro or two at the Monte Carlo casino! We will return to your hotel in good time to freshen up before dinner.

Approximate admission fees per adult: Jardin Exotique €7.20, Oceanographic Museum €14, Royal Palace €8. These are not included in the excursion. Based on 2017 prices.

Thursday   San Remo & Dolceacqua. We head west today, to the attractive resort of San Remo famed for its annual spring singing festival and domed Russian Church, the medieval centre known as La Pigna with its steep, narrow streets, and the elegant shopping area. From San Remo we take the coast road through pretty towns such as Ospedaletti and Bordighera towards the Nervia Valley. Heading inland, we travel to the fortified village of Dolceacqua, dominated by its 11th–century castle, where there will be time to explore and sample some of the area's wines in a local restaurant. We return to the hotel in time for dinner.

Friday   A further day at leisure.

Saturday   Breakfast and then transfer to the airport for your flight home.
